Most people have heard of a “bar hop.” This is when a group of friends goes from bar to bar to bar and has one drink at each establishment. Sounds messy, right? Well, that same general concept can be applied to any delicious treat. Why not? It’s properly silly and bound to be fun. Fun is good.

Every Cake in Town

It probably sounds a little bit silly to hunt down every cake in town, but if someone can have one drink at 10 different bars, then it’s perfectly harmless to sample one dessert at 10 different restaurants, no? There are a few different ways to approach this adventure: You could sample your favorite dessert, such as chocolate cake, at every place in town that serves it, or you could go from place to place and try their own signature dessert, whatever that may be. Alternatively, you could tailor your adventure to local tastes. If you’re in New England, for example, maybe try different local versions of the famous Boston Creme Pie. If you’re down south, maybe sample lemon meringue pie or pecan pie. A day of dessert is bound to be fun no matter how you go about it.

Sidebar to app developers: It’s helpful to know where all the gas stations around me are, but it would be truly great to know where all the coconut cream pies are (or any specific treat): “The closest coconut cream pie is in 1.3 miles.”

All the Seafood, Please

If you’re away for the weekend at a coastal destination and want a food adventure that goes above and beyond, try eating every major seafood item by the end of your trip. You may find some seafoods as the featured item in a meal and others as just one of several ingredients in a fisherman’s stew, but one thing is for certain: This eating adventure will likely take you from a fancy seaside restaurant to side-of-the-road clam shack. If this is a date weekend, make a nice card with all of the items listed and check them off as you hunt them down together. Your list could include:

  • Lobster
  • Clam
  • Mussels
  • Shrimp
  • Scallops
  • Crab
  • Fish
  • Oysters
  • Octopus
  • Shark
  • Squid
  • Snails
