When people say they changed their mind, what they really mean is that they had a change of heart. If the heart is the beating center of our existence, the circulator of our life blood, and the place where we imagine love to reside within us, it makes perfect sense that a total change in outlook is called a change of heart. When your heart changes, everything changes. The heart can open to someone or something that it was previously closed to, and it can close to someone or something that it was previously open to. An action or commitment that you once said you would never do or take under any circumstances can easily become something you know with certainty is the next right step for you. The simple truth is that the heart can change overnight without warning, and you cannot change your mind without changing your heart first.

If you listen carefully to your mind, you will see it often tells you that a hard-to-reach goal is actually impossible to achieve; that you don’t even want to do it; that it is inconsistent with your goals or values; and on and on, ad infinitum. If you listen to your heart, you will see it often tells you exactly what you desire; what you are capable of; what feels right; and what you are called to do. While your mind is not your enemy, it also isn’t your shepherd. It should assist you, not lead you. When you feel your heart opening, you are feeling courage blossom. When your heart says yes, don’t let your mind say no.
