One fun way to walk through life is to keep your ears (and mind) open to people who fearlessly explore the topics that arise generation after generation after generation.

It can be difficult or unpleasant to hear beliefs that differ from your own, especially if you are not accustomed to it, but it can also be a deeply interesting way to learn. Giving serious intellectual consideration to ideas you do not personally hold is not only generous, it is a form of open-mindedness that can lead to unexpected growth and discovery. As an exercise in logic and learning, it’s hard to beat.

Maybe it’s time to make debate club cool again. If you have any interest in researching and exploring both sides of a contentious issue⏤purely as an exercise in intellectual adventure⏤here are some timeless topics to consider:

Is money like a river or a reservoir?

Is time like beads on a chain or an infinite loop?

Does love come in an instant, or is it cultivated over time?

Does prosperity trickle up or trickle down?

Do we adapt and evolve, or were we created as is?

Is formal education as valuable as hands-on learning?

Is there one God or thousands of gods?

Is war ever justified, or should peace be the goal at all costs?

Does one have a right to defend themselves, or are they obligated to retreat?

Are all people equal, or are some people better than others?

Are there universal truths, or is truth always evolving?

Should the role of government be limited or expansive?

And on and on, ad infinitum.
